Gyeonggi Fire Ranks First Nationwide in Winter Fire Prevention Measures Assessment
The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters ranked first among city and provincial fire headquarters nationwide in the "2025-2026 Winter Fire Prevention Measures Implementation Assessment" conducted by the National Fire Agency. This evaluation comprehensively reviewed the performance of winter fire prevention measures promoted by fire departments across the country from November of the previous year to February of this year.
During the winter measures period, Gyeonggi Fire reduced the number of fires in the province to 1,295, an 11.6% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year (1,466 cases). The number of fire-related deaths fell from 19 to 11, a 42% decrease, significantly surpassing the initial target of "10% reduction compared to the previous year."
Policies to promote a culture of safety in daily life and protect vulnerable groups also received high marks. Gyeonggi Fire worked with Maeil Dairies and hy to promote fire prevention using milk and fermented dairy products.
In addition, for the first time nationwide, coverage for "Residential Fire Safety Insurance" was provided to 379,813 vulnerable households, enabling compensation for property damage and temporary housing costs in the event of a fire.
Furthermore, the agency reinforced customized safety management measures focused on fire prevention for advanced industrial facilities such as those in the semiconductor and secondary battery sectors, large construction sites, and senior welfare facilities.
