Walker Emerges as New Power Hitter... Clinches Victory with Four Consecutive Home Runs at the End
Dramatic Comeback Victory in MLB All-Star Home Run Derby
First-Ever Home Run Champion in St. Louis Cardinals History
Stuns Home Favorite Schwarber 12-11 in the Final
A new power hitter has emerged in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Jordan Walker, the 24-year-old slugger for the St. Louis Cardinals, has become the club’s first-ever Home Run Derby champion. On July 14, 2026 (Korean time), Walker claimed the title by defeating Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies 12-11 in the final round of the All-Star Game Home Run Derby held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
The Home Run Derby followed a format in which each participant had 15 swing attempts to hit as many home runs as possible, and only if the last swing resulted in a home run did they continue to get additional attempts.

His opponent in the final, Schwarber, is one of the league’s most prominent sluggers. Last year, he led the National League (NL) with 56 home runs. This season, he remains atop the league, having hit 32 home runs in the first half.
The final between these two players was so thrilling that it is considered one of the best showdowns in Home Run Derby history. Schwarber barely made it to the semifinals with 10 home runs in the first round, then advanced to the final by overcoming Wilson Contreras of the Boston Red Sox. In the final, Schwarber was on fire, blasting 11 home runs with 15 swings amid loud support from the home crowd.

With just one swing left, he had hit only eight home runs. As victory seemed within Schwarber’s grasp, Walker turned the tables by hitting four consecutive home runs on his final opportunities to claim victory.
Born in 2002, Walker debuted in the big leagues in 2023 and has blossomed this season. In the first half, he recorded a batting average of .294, 22 home runs, and 74 RBIs, with his RBI total leading the league. Invited to the All-Star stage for the first time in his career, Walker became the first St. Louis player ever to win the Home Run Derby. He received a champion’s prize of $1 million (approximately 1.5 billion won) and, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, a winner’s necklace adorned with 250 rubies.

Walker’s father graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and his mother, Katrina Walker, earned her degree from Harvard University, making for a highly educated family background.
