Woojin Entec Localizes Nuclear Power Plant Component "Radiation Monitoring System MI Cable Assembly"
Woojin Entec has successfully localized the "Radiation Monitoring System MI (Mineral Insulated) Cable Assembly," a key component with the highest safety grade in nuclear power plants.
According to Woojin Entec on July 14, this component has also been designated as a developed and selected product by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP). Over the next three years, it will be supplied to domestic nuclear power plants through a negotiated contract.
The radiation monitoring system MI cable assembly is a cable that connects the radiation detector installed inside the reactor to the control device. It supplies operating power and reliably transmits the measured micro-radiation detection signals, making it a core safety-related component that enables precise measurement of radiation levels at nuclear power plants. The key technology is ensuring that the radiation monitoring system installed inside nuclear power plants maintains stable performance and reliability over long periods, even in environments with high temperature, high pressure, high radiation, and high humidity.
Woojin Entec achieved localization of the product through three years of collaborative research and development with KHNP's Saeul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1. The company completed all tests under various conditions, including earthquakes, fires, and loss-of-coolant accidents, and successfully passed all on-site application tests.
Until now, MI cable assemblies for domestic nuclear power plants were 100% dependent on overseas suppliers. With Woojin Entec's achievement, it is expected that this will contribute to supply chain stabilization, cost reduction, shorter procurement periods, improved maintenance efficiency, and enhanced operational stability and reliability of nuclear power plants.

A company representative stated, "In addition to maintenance projects for instrumentation and control equipment at nuclear and thermal power plants, we have been actively strengthening research and development to localize related products, and this is the result of those efforts. Through the localization of key components, we have been able to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and significantly enhance product competitiveness in the nuclear power plant instrumentation and control sector."
