First Female Fire Chief Promoted Internally in 34-Year History of Gyeonggi Fire Service
Since the establishment of the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters in 1992, the first female fire chief at the fire station level to be promoted internally has emerged.
On the 13th, Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae presented appointment certificates to those who had been promoted, including Fire Chief Heo Seon-gyeong, at her office in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building.
Fire Chief Heo Seon-gyeong has served in various key positions within Gyeonggi Province, earning recognition for her expertise and leadership in fire prevention, disaster response, and organizational management. There are 49 fire chiefs at this level in Gyeonggi Province, and this is the first time that a female fire chief has been promoted internally within the province.

She added, "I hope that this new chapter in the history of Gyeonggi Province Fire Service will serve as a beacon of hope and challenge for many junior colleagues in the future."
At the appointment ceremony, appointment certificates were also presented to Fire Deputy Chief Park Jeonghun, as well as Fire Chiefs Moon Chung-rak, Seo Euiseok, Cho Jaegwan, and Lee Yongseok.
Governor Choo congratulated the promoted personnel, saying, "Please always prioritize the safety of our residents and listen even more attentively to voices from the field. Carefully look after the health and safety of your team members, and actively communicate any challenges from the field so that we can work together to improve them."

Currently, about 1,700 female firefighters (approximately 15% of the total) are working in Gyeonggi Province Fire Service across various fields, including field operations, prevention, rescue and emergency services, and administration.
