First Step Toward Improving Hwangsansageori Intersection... Tackling Congestion Begins
Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae), is set to push forward the Hwangsansageori Intersection Traffic System Improvement Project, a core transportation pledge of the 9th popularly elected administration. The city has begun preparing phased measures to resolve chronic traffic congestion at Hwangsansageori, the gateway to Hanam.

As part of the first phase, the city will implement improvements to increase traffic capacity in the area around the Post Office Intersection. Specifically, the left-turn entry lane on Misagangbyeon-daero will be extended from the current 70 meters to 150 meters, and additional right-turn and left-turn entry/exit lanes will be installed on Pungsan-ro. The existing three lanes on Misagangbyeon Seoro will be expanded to four lanes, and a new right-turn-only traffic signal will also be introduced.
The city expects these measures to facilitate smoother vehicle flow while also enhancing pedestrian safety for those using the crosswalks.
In addition, the second phase will involve launching a "Basic Plan Study for Improving the Traffic System around Hwangsansageori Intersection." After analyzing the root causes of congestion, the city will verify the effectiveness of the improvements through traffic simulations, and then develop optimal solutions by consulting with relevant agencies and gathering resident feedback.
The study will comprehensively review not only chronic congestion near Sangil IC and vehicle weaving issues caused by the coexistence of central and roadside bus stops, but also the concentration of crosswalks in short sections, and the anticipated increase in traffic demand from future large-scale developments such as Hwangsan Officetel.
