Former Prime Minister Kim Minseok, who is running for the Democratic Party of Korea's party leader election, said on July 13, "If we fail to change the party leader to someone with the right direction and leadership, the party will be shaken, and so will the president."

He said, "If the election were held tomorrow or the day after, it is uncertain whether we can reliably secure a majority party that will firmly support President Lee Jaemyung's administration," expressing his concerns.
He continued, "We must be fully prepared to win the general election," and added, "Although I may not be a perfect 100 out of 100 at this moment, I love the Democratic Party as if it were my own body and can surely achieve victory in the general election as a definite partner to President Lee Jaemyung."
Kim emphasized, "I will begin an inclusive politics of addition, growing and expanding the party into one that firmly embraces all capable individuals from rational progressives and reformists, rational moderates, and rational conservatives."

He also addressed concerns regarding the introduction of the one-person-one-vote system for the first time in this party convention, saying, "Some people even worry that groups like Shincheonji might intervene, but what matters more than concerns is the overwhelming power of positivity." He appealed, "With 100% voting and participation, and with overwhelming support, please make me your party leader."
