The initiative, now in its 11th year, aims to reduce the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable populations in island areas and to help reinforce the local medical safety net.
Using Korea Zinc’s sponsorship funds, Tongyeong Red Cross Hospital has conducted 14 rounds of free mobile clinics from June last year through this month, serving 1,910 medically vulnerable residents in Tongyeong City, Goseong County, and Geoje City. The clinics covered internal medicine, anesthesiology and pain medicine, neurosurgery, and orthopedics. Each session, a team of about 20 medical staff, including doctors and nurses, provided a range of healthcare services, including consultations, prescriptions, medication, and chronic disease management.
In addition to the free mobile clinics, comprehensive MRI cerebrovascular examinations were conducted for around 100 residents. The recipients were selected from remote island communities where the mobile clinic team could not visit.
A representative from Korea Zinc stated, “We hope this initiative has helped bridge the welfare gap for medically vulnerable groups in island areas and contributed to safeguarding the health of local residents. Korea Zinc will continue to provide ongoing support to strengthen the community’s healthcare safety net.”
