"Samsung Must Compensate for DX Morale Decline"...NSEU and Donghaeng Union Announce Successive Rallies
The National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) and the Samsung Electronics Labor Union Donghaeng (Donghaeng Union) are set to hold a rally demanding accountability from management regarding the performance bonus gap between divisions within Samsung Electronics and the resulting decline in morale.
On July 13, NSEU announced in a press release, "We will hold a rally from 11 a.m. on July 14 in the designated protest area in front of the central gate of Samsung Electronics' Suwon campus, urging the company to come up with measures to boost morale and provide fair compensation for the Device Experience (DX) division."
On the afternoon of May 22, when the preliminary agreement vote on wage negotiations between Samsung Electronics labor and management began, the executive members of the Samsung Electronics labor union Donghaeng (Donghaeng Union), mainly consisting of employees from the Device Experience (DX) division, expressed their position regarding the preliminary agreement and the scope of participation in the yes/no vote in front of the main gate of Samsung Electronics in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. Previously, labor and management at Samsung Electronics agreed to introduce a special management performance bonus, funded by 10.5% of the semiconductor division's business performance, as part of the wage negotiations. As a result, the Device Solutions (DS) division, which is responsible for the semiconductor business, is expected to receive up to 600 million won per employee in performance bonuses. In contrast, the DX division, responsible for home appliances, TVs, and smartphones, will only receive company stock worth about 6 million won per person, leading to a surge of internal complaints about the performance bonus gap.
In response, NSEU has requested that not only Roh Tae-moon, CEO and head of the DX division at Samsung Electronics, but also Jun Young-hyun, CEO and head of the DS division, clarify their positions regarding the compensation gap and feelings of relative deprivation.
NSEU stated, "Our intention is not to criticize any individual or organization, but to peacefully and orderly convey the realities and demands of the DX division members." The union added, "At the venue, we will operate a joint memorial altar-style exhibition space to symbolically represent the sense of crisis and atmosphere felt by DX division members, allowing participants to freely lay flowers."

The Donghaeng Union, mainly composed of DX division members, is also planning a union rally near the Suwon campus of Samsung Electronics on July 16. Donghaeng Union explained, "We intend to hold a rally to voice opposition to this year's unreasonable neglect of the DX division in wage negotiations," adding that "we are targeting a turnout of 2,000 to 3,000 people."
