"28 Million Won Collected Through Account Seizure"... Cumulative Enforced Child Support Payments Surpass 300 Billion Won
Child Support Agency Offers Counseling and Assistance for Single-Parent Families
Policy Support Includes Legal Assistance, Enforcement Measures, and Advance Payment System
#. After A divorced, she did not receive any child support for her only child. With assistance from the Child Support Agency, A proceeded to claim child support. However, each time, the obligor would quit his job, making it difficult to expect any practical outcome. In February this year, she applied for the advance payment system and received 200,000 won per month. Then in April, through the seizure of the obligor's bank account, approximately 28 million won in unpaid child support was collected.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 13th that, as of the end of June this year, the cumulative amount of enforced child support payments had exceeded 300 billion won.
Since the start of child support enforcement assistance in 2015, the cumulative amount has been recorded at 111.2 billion won in 2021, 220 billion won in 2024, and 300.2 billion won as of the end of June 2026.
The Ministry believes that policy initiatives such as the implementation of the advance payment system for child support, expanded professional legal support, and strengthened enforcement measures have contributed to the increase in enforced child support payments.
The Child Support Agency, which is the dedicated organization, plans to publish a casebook in July containing examples of enforcement assistance and advance payment cases to date.
Single-parent families who are not receiving child support can receive counseling and assistance on legal support, enforcement measures, and the advance payment system through the Child Support Agency.
Min Kyung Won, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, stated, "We will continue to improve the child support enforcement support system and strengthen cooperation with related agencies to ensure the stable enforcement of child support payments."
