Kyungpook National University Hosts 'Parent Admissions Talk Talk'; Keimyung University Achieves Top Prize at Startup Competition
Kyungpook National University Offers College Admissions Information to 500 Parents
Keimyung University’s JKJ Team Wins Top Prize with Caregiving-Inspired Innovation
Universities in the Daegu region are gaining attention for engaging with the local community and demonstrating their students' practical capabilities.
While Kyungpook National University has begun offering tailored college admission information sessions for high school parents nationwide, students from Keimyung University have achieved remarkable success by winning the top prize at a national entrepreneurship competition.
On July 9, Kyungpook National University (President Heo Youngwoo) held the 'Parent Admissions Talk Talk' event at the Hyoseok Hall in the university's Global Plaza, hosting 500 high school parents from across the country.
This information session was organized to help parents become effective 'admissions mentors' by providing them with accurate information about the rapidly changing college admissions landscape.
The highlight of the event was the firsthand stories shared by three current Kyungpook National University students, each of whom had been admitted through the academic record-based, comprehensive evaluation, and essay-based admissions tracks, respectively.
They described their preparation processes, strategic approaches to each admissions track, and campus life after admission, offering insights that resonated strongly with the attending parents.
This was followed by a session led by an admissions officer on 'Guidance for the 2027 Early Admission Process,' as well as a Q&A segment.
Ko Chunhwa, Director of Admissions at Kyungpook National University, stated, "Parents are the closest companions and the very first mentors for college-bound students. As a national flagship university, we will take the lead in fostering a healthy admissions culture centered on public education."
The startup team 'JKJ' (Jang Seokhyeon, Kang Hosung, Jang Ilsang), composed of students from the Department of Sports Marketing at Keimyung University (President Shin Ilhee), was awarded the top prize in the 'Pre-Lycon Awards' category at the '2026 Challenge! Mega City League Grand Final,' a nationwide student entrepreneurship competition held at Wonkwang University in Iksan, North Jeolla Province, on July 8. The team received a prize of 10 million won.
'Square Form,' developed by the JKJ team, is a caregiving assistive device designed to prevent pressure ulcers in bedridden patients.
Team leader and student Jang Seokhyeon planned the device based on challenges experienced while caring for a family member and input gathered from caregivers during volunteer work at nursing homes.
Notably, this achievement was made possible through a one-stop training program that utilized generative AI to prepare the patent application and government grant proposal, adding further significance to the result.
Having already completed verification at three nursing hospitals and filed a patent application, the JKJ team plans to officially launch the product within this year.
