Musical "Leap of Faith" to Make Korean Premiere...Actor Auditions Announced
Applications Accepted Until July 26
ShowNote, the musical production company, announced on July 13 that it will select actors for the upcoming Korean premiere of the musical "Leap of Faith" (original title: Leap of Faith) through auditions, ahead of its debut in late August next year.
"Leap of Faith" is based on the 1992 American film of the same name. The original movie, starring Steve Martin and Debra Winger, left a strong impression with its well-crafted story and delightful humor.
The story follows Jonas, a fake revival preacher and outstanding showman who has traveled the country selling "miracles." When Jonas finds himself stranded in a small town in Kansas, USA, he encounters Jake, a boy who believes in miracles, and his mother Marla, the town's sheriff. Through them, Jonas discovers the true meaning of faith.
The musical adaptation of "Leap of Faith" premiered in Los Angeles, USA, in 2010. The creative team included Alan Menken, composer of Disney musicals such as "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Newsies"; Janus Cercone, who wrote the screenplay for the original film; and Glenn Slater, lyricist for "School of Rock" and "Sister Act." The show was praised for its dazzling gospel music, dynamic ensemble, and unique characters. In 2012, it made its way to Broadway and was nominated for both the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical, earning critical recognition.
The Korean premiere will feature director Park Soyoung, known for "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Come From Away"; music director Koo Soyoung, who worked on "If/Then" and "Werther"; and choreographer Lee Hyeonjeong, renowned for "Memphis" and "Kinky Boots."
This audition will select several roles, including Sam Nightingale, Jonas's sister who gathers information and prepares the revival meeting; Ida Mae Sturdevant, the lead singer of the revival choir and a motherly figure; Isaiah Sturdevant, Ida's son and a seminary student who clashes with Jonas; and Onella Sturdevant, Ida's daughter and a choir member. The audition will also cast Jake, Marla's son who uses a wheelchair due to an accident, as well as ensemble and swing actors.
