Navy Crew Member Missing in East Sea... Search Underway
On July 12, a crew member aboard a Navy vessel went missing while on patrol duty in the northern waters of the East Sea, prompting a search operation by military authorities.
The Navy announced that "this morning, a crew member (enlisted soldier) aboard a Navy vessel conducting patrol duty approximately 50 kilometers east of Goseong in the East Sea went missing." The missing crew member holds the rank of private, and the vessel in question is reported to be a frigate.
The Navy stated, "We are currently conducting a joint search operation with the Coast Guard, deploying vessels and aircraft to locate the missing individual," adding, "We have also informed fishing boats operating in the area, as well as nearby merchant ships, and are cooperating with them in the search."
