Sokcho City to Provide 200,000 Won Livelihood Recovery Subsidy… Applications Open from the 20th
Sokcho City Accepting Applications Until September 11
Via CHAK App, City Website, and Local Community Centers
In order to revitalize the local economy, which has been dampened by high inflation and soaring oil prices, the city of Sokcho will provide a 200,000 won livelihood recovery subsidy to each citizen. Applications will begin on July 20, and the city plans to minimize inconvenience for residents by setting a concentrated application period, operating special weekend service desks, and providing outreach services.
On July 12, the city of Sokcho announced that it will accept applications for the “Livelihood Recovery Subsidy” from July 20 to September 11. Eligible recipients include citizens who are registered residents of Sokcho as of June 30, 2026, as well as marriage immigrants and permanent residents with registered addresses in Sokcho. The subsidy amount is 200,000 won per person.
The subsidy will be provided either as a mobile recharge through the Sokcho Sarang Gift Certificate CHAK app or as a non-personalized prepaid card. Online applications can be made via the CHAK app or the Sokcho City Hall website, and app users must complete membership registration in advance. For offline applications, residents can visit their local community center with an ID card. For proxy applications, a letter of authorization and supporting documents verifying the relationship, such as family relationship certificates, must be submitted.
To reduce initial congestion, the city will designate July 20 to 31 as the concentrated application period. During this period, a day-of-the-week system based on the last digit of birth years will apply: Mondays for those ending in 1 or 6, Tuesdays for 2 or 7, Wednesdays for 3 or 8, Thursdays for 4 or 9, and Fridays for 5 or 0. Online applications are possible at any time during this period, including weekends, without day restrictions.
For citizens who have difficulty visiting on weekdays, special application desks will operate at eight community centers on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For those with limited mobility, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, a “visiting application service” will be provided, with staff from the local community center visiting addresses directly.
The subsidy can be used at Sokcho Sarang Gift Certificate-affiliated merchants with annual sales of 3 billion won or less, and must be used by November 30. Any remaining balance not used by the deadline will be automatically forfeited.
To ensure smooth processing and prompt payment, Sokcho City plans to assign officials from its main office and affiliated branches to the eight community centers in line with the concentrated application period and special application days. The city will also continuously monitor the status of applications and payments to prevent confusion at the sites.
