By 2 p.m., maximum temperatures at other observation points were 38.2 degrees Celsius in Sinam-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu; 37.5 degrees Celsius in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province; and 36.8 degrees Celsius in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province.
During the day, Daejeon saw a high of 34.4 degrees Celsius, Gwangju 34.3 degrees Celsius, Busan 33.0 degrees Celsius, Seoul 32.4 degrees Celsius, Ulsan 31.6 degrees Celsius, and Incheon 31.0 degrees Celsius.
The reason for the rising maximum temperatures is that both the North Pacific High and the Tibetan High are simultaneously covering the Korean Peninsula, while hot and humid air continues to flow in along the edge of the North Pacific High.
This intense heat is expected to persist at similar levels for the time being. With high humidity, the perceived temperature will rise to as high as 33 degrees Celsius in most regions, and will exceed 35 degrees Celsius in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and the southern regions.
As a result, heat advisories have been issued for 209 out of 235 land-based weather advisory zones nationwide, accounting for 89% of the total.
Currently, 130 areas are under heat advisory, while 79 areas are under heat warning.
Tropical nights are also expected to occur in various regions during the night.
