Democratic Party: "Only a Thorough, Unrestricted Reinvestigation Can Resolve the Jang Yun-gi Case"
"Not Just a Poor Investigation, But Complicit Acts... Fundamental Reform Needed"
On July 11, the Democratic Party of Korea called for a thorough reinvestigation into allegations of collusion between the father of Jang Yun-gi—the perpetrator of the Gwangju high school girl murder case and an incumbent police executive—and the investigative team.
Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, stated in a written briefing on the same day, "If the power of the state, which should have been pursuing the criminal, instead became his shield, this is not a case of a poor investigation but a complicit act disguised as an investigation." She continued, "We strongly demand a full reinvestigation that mobilizes all investigative capabilities. Only a reinvestigation without any sanctuaries can provide answers."

She went on to say, "As public outrage has erupted, the police have announced organizational reform measures such as the establishment of a reform task force and an internal corruption investigation unit. However, what the public demands is not a perfunctory, self-serving response, but fundamental reform, even if it means enduring the pain of self-sacrifice."
Spokesperson Park concluded, "The Democratic Party will closely monitor whether the reinvestigation proceeds without the slightest deviation from the standards of the public," and added, "We will stand with the people until those who tried to cover up the truth with power are held accountable."
