Local governments and councils in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang (Gyeongbuk) region are drawing attention as they continue multifaceted efforts, including strengthening communication, establishing medical safety nets for public stability, and securing future growth engines to revitalize the regional economy.
The Pohang City Council (led by Chairman Kim Cheolsoo) held a meeting on July 10, inviting former chairpersons to discuss the development of legislative affairs and solutions to local issues.
This event, organized to mark the opening of the first half of the 10th council, was attended by former chairpersons Jin Byungsoo, Gong Wonsik, Park Moonha, Lee Chilkoo, and Kim Ilman, who shared their legislative expertise.
Chairman Kim Cheolsoo stated, "Based on the wisdom of our predecessors, I will strive to build a responsible council that puts the people's livelihoods first."
Meanwhile, neighboring Gyeongju City Council saw conflicts arise over the formation of its leadership.
All members of the Democratic Party of Korea in the Gyeongju City Council issued a statement on the same day, strongly condemning the lack of cooperation, saying, "The People Power Party has trampled on the citizens' desire for change, which led to the election of six Democratic Party councilors for the first time, and has monopolized the chairmanships and four standing committee leadership positions."
Gyeongsan City (Mayor Jo Hyunil) announced that, in celebration of the 15th Population Day, local medical institution "Kkum Green Pediatric & Adolescent Hospital" and "Gwangjang Pharmacy" each received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award and the North Gyeongsang Province Governor's Award, respectively, in recognition of their contributions to overcoming low birth rates and creating a birth- and child-rearing-friendly environment, achieving the feat of winning two awards.
Kkum Green Pediatric & Adolescent Hospital (headed by Park Jinhwi) was commended for leading the establishment of a ONE-hour obstetrics and pediatrics medical system, while Gwangjang Pharmacy (represented by Lee Seunghyun) was highly evaluated for filling medical gaps for infants and young children through extended nighttime and holiday operations.
Jo Hyunil, Mayor of Gyeongsan, stated, "We will further strengthen a dense medical and care environment where children and parents can feel secure."
Yeongcheon City is participating in the '2026 Daegu-Gyeongbuk Premium Expo' held at Daegu EXCO from July 10 to 12, widely promoting its excellent agricultural specialties and future growth potential.
Yeongcheon City attracted visitors with features such as the Bohyeonsan Dam suspension bridge photo zone and tasting events for Yeongcheon wine and garlic snack products.
In addition, the city promoted its signature festivals, including the Yeongcheon Horse Racing Park, scheduled to open in September, and the Bohyeonsan Starlight Festival, set for October, while also highlighting favorable conditions for corporate investment such as the creation of an industrial complex covering 1.1 million pyeong.
