All-Out Efforts to Prevent Maritime Accidents During Typhoon Season

The Mokpo Coast Guard is focusing on minimizing damage as the main typhoon season approaches.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on July 10, Typhoon BAVI, the ninth typhoon currently moving north, has a central pressure of 910 hPa and maintains a 'Category 5' strength with maximum wind speeds exceeding 58 meters per second, moving westward. Although the projected path of the typhoon does not directly target the Korean Peninsula, the Mokpo Coast Guard has prepared for possible indirect effects, such as weather volatility and increased moisture inflow.

Earlier, to proactively respond to the typhoon season, the Mokpo Coast Guard held the 'Typhoon Season Maritime Accident Prevention Countermeasure Meeting' twice, on the 12th and 19th.

On July 9, the Mokpo Coast Guard also convened the 'Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technical Committee' with participation from about 30 members representing 20 related organizations, including local governments and fire agencies, to reaffirm the organic cooperation system in the event of a disaster.

The Mokpo Coast Guard recently inspected the construction site of the offshore wind farm in Ui, Shinan, checking the preparedness of both vessels and structures. Ahead of the summer peak season, they also completed readiness checks and safety inspections of local police substations, beaches, and other coastal risk areas. In particular, the latest typhoon preparedness and response measures are being immediately applied in the field, and the plans will continue to be revised and supplemented to match the actual conditions of the sea and ports.
