9cm Height Difference Found at Seongsu Bridge Entrance... Seoul to Conduct Immediate Detailed Safety Inspection
Olympic-daero to Seongsu Bridge Entry Ramp Section
First Identified in 2016 Detailed Safety Inspection
Seoul City: "No Impact on Vehicle Operation"
A height difference of approximately 9 centimeters was found on the southbound entry ramp of Seongsu Bridge in Seoul, prompting the Seoul Metropolitan Government to begin a detailed safety inspection. The city maintains that there are no structural safety concerns, as no additional settlement has occurred for several years.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on July 10, the height difference was found in the ramp section leading from Olympic-daero toward Jamsil onto Seongsu Bridge. This entry ramp, constructed with soil and retaining walls, showed a height difference of about 9 centimeters at the point where it connects to the main bridge deck.
The city believes that this height difference has existed since the completion of construction. It was first identified during a detailed safety inspection in 2016 and has remained at the 89–90 millimeter range through this year. Officials explained that the center of the road, which vehicles actually travel on, is paved with asphalt, so the height difference does not interfere with vehicle operation.

However, due to ongoing concerns, the city has decided to conduct a detailed safety inspection of the ramp section and to carry out a thorough investigation to determine if similar cases exist in other bridge sections throughout Seoul. A city official said, "In order to address public safety concerns, we will immediately carry out safety inspections, take action to ensure there are no issues, and rigorously manage these areas to prevent similar concerns from arising in the future."
