The Secret Behind K-Pop's Global Success: Exploring the 'Language of Rhythm' in Hangul Through Science
National Science Museum to Host Hangul Science Experience Event on July 19-20
From AI Album Design to the Principles of Pronunciation
Celebrating the 580th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Hunminjeongeum
An event will be held where participants can directly experience how the unique rhythm and scientific structure of the Korean alphabet, Hangul, have contributed to the global popularity of K-pop. The event will explain, from a scientific perspective, how Hangul's characteristics—such as its ease of singing along and the principles behind its pronunciation—connect with K-pop.
The National Science Museum announced on July 10 that, to mark the 580th anniversary of the proclamation of the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon, it will host the experiential event, "The Secret of K-Pop Fandom: Hangul Filled with Rhythm," at the Korea Science and Technology Museum from July 19 to 20.
The event is designed to introduce, in an easy and entertaining manner, why Hangul in K-pop sounds rhythmic and is easy for people around the world to sing along with, as well as why Hangul is recognized as a design element—all from a scientific viewpoint.
Main programs include: "Hangul Album Keychain Workshop," where artificial intelligence (AI) creates personalized K-pop album designs using Hangul characters; "Hangul Karaoke," where participants can experience the beat and rhythm created by syllable-based pronunciation; and "What Happens in Your Mouth When You Read Hangul?" which uses MRI simulations to explore the movement of vocal organs and vocal cords.
Other experiential programs will also be offered, such as Hangul Typing King, Hangul Calligraphy, Hangul Dalgona, and Hangul Board Games.
