Assemblyman Koo Jagun Secures AX Demonstration Industrial Complex from Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy... Expands the Future Industrial Landscape of Gumi
Direct Negotiation with the Minister and Continued Government Consultation Drive Project Forward
24.5 Billion Won National Project Secured for Gumi
On July 10, the city of Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province was finally selected as the site for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's "AX (Artificial Intelligence Transformation) Demonstration Industrial Complex Project." This achievement has once again highlighted the political influence of National Assemblyman Koo Jagun, who has continuously persuaded and negotiated with the government to attract the project.
This project, which will run from this year through 2029 with a total budget of 24.5 billion won, is a national core initiative aimed at building AX demonstration models for each industrial sector—centered on the semiconductor materials and components industry—and establishing an AX Support Center and a Manufacturing AI Open Lab. The core goal is to support the AI transformation of manufacturing companies and enhance industrial competitiveness.
Behind the selection of the project was Assemblyman Koo Jagun's proactive engagement with the government.
As a member of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee, Assemblyman Koo met directly with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy in May, strongly recommending the project by explaining Gumi’s manufacturing competitiveness and the need for AX transformation.
He reportedly continued close consultations with the government, focusing on persuading them that Gumi was the optimal site for the project.
Assemblyman Koo has previously devoted his political influence to securing national projects to foster Gumi as a hub for semiconductors, AI, and advanced manufacturing industries. With the attraction of the Smart Green Industrial Complex, the Semiconductor Specialized Complex, and manufacturing innovation infrastructure projects, and now the AX Demonstration Industrial Complex, he is being credited with helping transform Gumi’s industrial landscape into a future-oriented manufacturing innovation system.
In particular, as a member of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee, he has played a key role in aligning local issues with national policy, leveraging his ability to coordinate policies and secure budgets from government ministries. The selection of Gumi for the AX Demonstration Industrial Complex is seen as a result of these political efforts.
Assemblyman Koo Jagun stated, "It is deeply meaningful that Gumi has been recognized as a key hub for AI-driven innovation in Korea’s manufacturing sector. I will work closely with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to ensure smooth project execution and will do my utmost to secure follow-up funding and policy support."
He added, "This project is not just a simple competitive selection, but a turning point that will determine the future competitiveness of Gumi’s manufacturing industry. I will spare no effort at the National Assembly level to support local companies so that they can build global competitiveness through AI-based manufacturing innovation."
With Gumi’s selection for the AX Demonstration Industrial Complex Project, the city is expected to accelerate the construction of a national manufacturing innovation hub that fuses the semiconductor materials and components industry with AI technologies. This achievement—driven by collaboration among the political community, central government, and local government—raises expectations as a potential catalyst for attracting future large-scale national projects.
National projects cannot be completed based solely on regional competitiveness.
They only bear fruit when the political community backs them by persuading the central government and connecting policies.
