DND Pharmatech Secures Japanese Patent for MASH Treatment 'Zabofegdutide'
Securing Substance Patent Rights in Japan Following the US and China
Expanding Global Patent Portfolio
"Accelerating Technology Transfer Discussions Based on US Phase 2 Clinical Results"
DND Pharmatech announced on July 9 that the substance patent for its independently developed MASH (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis) treatment, 'Zabofegdutide (DD01),' has been granted in Japan.
This patent is part of the original substance patent application for Zabofegdutide, first filed in Korea in 2019. The company explained that, following the acquisition of patents in key markets such as the United States and China, the recognition of rights in Japan further expands its global patent portfolio.
Japan is considered a market where the number of patients with fatty liver disease is increasing, due to the influence of a Westernized diet and an aging population. According to the company, the prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in Japan is expected to rise from 34% in 2020 to 45% by 2040. Currently, there are no officially approved MASH treatments in Japan, making it a market with significant unmet medical needs.
DND Pharmatech expects that securing this patent will provide a foundation for future entry into the Japanese market and the establishment of global partnering strategies.
The company announced the results of its U.S. Phase 2 clinical trial for Zabofegdutide in May and stated that, based on these results, it is currently in discussions with multiple global pharmaceutical companies regarding technology transfer agreements.
