Jeonnam-Gwangju Deputy Mayors to Be Directly Nominated by Public for the First Time Among Local Governments
Discovering Deputy Mayor Candidates Through the "Public Recommendation System" from July 10 to 15
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan City, which was newly established on July 1, is seeking public recommendations for the position of Vice Mayor for Political Affairs.
The Ministry of Personnel Management and Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that they will accept recommendations for candidates for Vice Mayor for Political Affairs through the "Public Recommendation System" from July 10 to July 15.
This is the first time that the Public Recommendation System—a participatory personnel system in which citizens directly recommend qualified candidates for public office—has been utilized by a local government.
A total of two vice mayors will be appointed through this recommendation process: one vice mayor in charge of industries, jobs, economy, labor, and advanced strategic industries, and another vice mayor responsible for citizen sovereignty, youth population policy, health and welfare, and gender equality.
Anyone can participate in the recommendation process via the Ministry of Personnel Management’s Public Recommendation System website. For those who face difficulties with online participation, such as digitally marginalized groups, on-site submissions are also available at local community centers under the jurisdiction of Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Gwangju Metropolitan City plans to swiftly proceed with the selection process, including qualification screening of all candidates, including those recommended by citizens, and complete the appointments by next month.
