SKT Signs MOU with SoftBank to Develop AI Social Value Measurement Model
Collaboration on the Development of Standardized Measurement Methodology
On July 9, SK Telecom announced that it will join forces with Japan's SoftBank and the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies (CSES) to develop a joint methodology for objectively measuring the social value generated by AI and ICT technologies.
The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at SK Telecom's SKT Tower in Euljiro, Seoul, to strengthen cooperation in the measurement of social value and related collaboration.
The signing ceremony was attended by Yasuyuki Genda, Corporate Officer at SoftBank Corp.; Seok-Kwon Na, CEO of the Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies; and Jonghwan Um, Head of Sustainability Management at SK Telecom. The Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies is a non-profit foundation established by the SK Group to support activities that create social value.
AI is creating new social value in various areas, not only by improving productivity but also by strengthening social safety nets, promoting digital inclusion, and enhancing customer benefits. At the same time, there is a growing need for a methodology to objectively measure the social utility created by companies through AI technologies.
The three companies plan to leverage their accumulated expertise in social value measurement to jointly develop a global standard methodology to measure the social value created by each company's AI and ICT products and services. To promote the adoption of social value measurement methodologies in global markets such as Korea and Japan, the companies also agreed to collaborate on case studies, joint reports, and forums.
