Kwangdong Pharmaceutical Selected for "Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project"... Launches Investment in Eco-Friendly Facilities
Kwangdong Pharmaceutical announced on July 9 that it has been selected for the “2026 Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project” led by the Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and will begin establishing eco-friendly facilities.
The Smart Eco-Factory Construction Project is a government initiative that supports the transition of manufacturing plants to high-efficiency, low-carbon facilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants. Through this project, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical plans to strengthen its eco-friendly production foundation by improving energy efficiency at its sites.
The main investment areas include the introduction of energy-saving boilers, waste heat recycling systems, power-saving air handling units, high-efficiency blower equipment, and high-efficiency waste dewatering facilities. In addition, the newly introduced equipment will be managed through an ICT (Information and Communication Technology)-based monitoring system to track energy usage and pollutant emissions in real time.
With these facility investments, Kwangdong Pharmaceutical aims to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 600 tons and waste generation by about 16 tons. The company also expects to save about 200 million won per year in energy costs.
A Kwangdong Pharmaceutical official stated, “We expect this project to serve as an opportunity to expand sustainable management and enhance cost competitiveness in manufacturing,” adding, “We will continue to invest in facilities and advance our management systems to further reduce greenhouse gases and waste pollutants.”
