The target site encompasses approximately 53,507 square meters, including the cultural park adjacent to the joint campus, commercial and business-use land, and parking lots. The area is planned to be developed as a future-oriented multi-purpose space where the university, local community, and youth can grow together.
As the MA for this project, Professor Ji-yoon Bae will establish the spatial vision and design strategy and collaborate with experts in architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture to oversee both the specialized planning and the master plan. Based on this, she aims to propose a creative and sustainable spatial plan connected to the joint campus, suggesting strategies for creating a youth-centered innovation hub and revitalizing the city.
This research project also involves Professor Jong-hyun Park, Dean of the Department of Architecture at Honam University; Professor Chang-guk Kim from the Department of Landscape Architecture; and Acecape Architects, who will work together to conduct interdisciplinary research spanning architecture, landscape, and urban design.
Professor Jong-hyun Park serves as the head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korea Urban Design Institute and contributes expertise in urban and architectural planning, drawing on his experience as MA for the specialized project of commercial, business-use land (C1~C6), and the cultural park within the 4-2 Living Zone of the Administrative City.
Additionally, Professor Chang-guk Kim is a landscape planning expert who studied landscape architecture at North Carolina State University and Utah State University in the United States. With extensive experience in public landscape and urban space projects, he is responsible for developing the green infrastructure and landscape plan.
Moreover, Acecape Architects is a design firm specializing in public architecture and urban regeneration. The firm participates in the project leveraging its expertise in public space design, as demonstrated by winning the Presidential Award at the 2023 Korea Spatial Culture Awards for its representative project, Dong-gu Humanities Center.
Professor Ji-yoon Bae stated, "I will do my best to present a master plan that embodies both public value and creativity so that the Jiphyeon-dong Campus Park Zone can be developed into an innovative multi-purpose space organically connecting the university, city, and youth. I hope this project will serve as an opportunity to propose a new spatial model for the Administrative City."
