"Reduce Carbohydrates Today"... Insurers Expanding 'Ultra-Personalized Healthcare'
AI That Knows Your Body Data Becomes a "Health Coach"
Personalized Support From Chronic Disease to Brain Health
"Expanding Connection Points Beyond Post-Event Coverage to Ongoing Health Management"
Insurance companies are expanding their use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based healthcare services across their insurance products and overall customer management. By analyzing health data, they offer personalized services such as diet and exercise coaching, chronic disease management, and brain health assessments. This marks an evolution from the traditional role of insurance—paying out benefits after the occurrence of illness—toward becoming a life care service that supports prevention and ongoing management.
According to the insurance industry on July 9, DB Life Insurance recently secured a three-month exclusive usage right from the Korea Life Insurance Association's New Product Review Committee for its AI health coaching customer management service, which has been applied to the "Non-participating AI Life Care Cancer Insurance" product.
This service uses AI to analyze health screening data and calculates a health grade for each customer, linking it to premium discount benefits. Customers can receive preferential premiums based on their health status, and their grades can be recalculated based on subsequent health management results. Additionally, the AI coaching function provides personalized counseling, diet and exercise management, and health reports for each customer.
DB Life Insurance explained, "This is a service that has been field-tested and improved based on feedback from internal employees," adding, "It was developed over more than a year with collaboration from over five departments across the company." The company further stated, "From the customer's perspective, connecting health screening data with insurance allows for more efficient use of insurance from enrollment to maintenance, and the AI health coaching and health challenges offer opportunities for premium discounts." They added, "For the insurance industry, this represents an opportunity to expand the role of insurance from simply providing post-event coverage to becoming a partner that supports prevention and ongoing management."
Other insurers are also expanding their AI-driven healthcare services. Last month, Lotte Insurance signed a business agreement with Kakao Healthcare. Through their collaboration, the two companies plan to provide AI-powered personalized health management services to employees of companies enrolled in group insurance. They aim to support everyday chronic disease management by connecting devices such as continuous glucose monitors and ring-type blood pressure monitors with Kakao Healthcare's blood glucose and weight management solutions.
KB Life Insurance is also offering AI health management features through its senior life care platform "KB Golden Life ON." The platform's "AI Brain Health Check" uses AI to assess brain health. In addition, it offers various content—such as mindfulness and health classes—to help improve cognitive functions like memory, concentration, and language skills.
Within the insurance industry, there is a growing view that AI healthcare services could become a means to differentiate products and strengthen customer relationships. As the population ages and chronic diseases become more prevalent, demand for health management tailored to individual health status and lifestyle is increasing, and competition in AI-based life care is expected to intensify.
