"Looking for Friends on Danggeun"... Local Golf Groups Most Popular
Danggeunmoim Surpasses 10 Million Monthly Users
Used by People in Their 20s to Those Over 60
Local Community Culture Gains Widespread Popularity
The “Danggeunmoim” feature, which allows users to connect with neighbors through offline gatherings on the Danggeun application (app), has experienced rapid growth. Many believe this has enabled Danggeun to establish itself as a local community platform, moving beyond its initial role as a secondhand trading service. In the first half of this year, the most popular category for Danggeunmoim was “sports,” with the highest number of gatherings being organized around “golf.”
According to Danggeun on July 8, the number of monthly active users (MAU) for the “Moim” community service within the Danggeun app surpassed 10 million in the first half of this year. This was driven by a 74% year-on-year increase in the number of gatherings and a 128% increase in the number of participants. The creation of meeting schedules rose by 106%, and the number of reviews shared after gatherings jumped by 191%. This indicates that every stage of the process—from organizing a group, to meeting in person, to sharing feedback—has become highly active.
In the first half of the year, “sports” accounted for 25.9% of all gatherings, making it the most popular category. This was followed by local friends (18.0%), self-development (15.8%), hobbies and entertainment (11.0%), and music and musical instruments (5.2%). Within the sports category, golf ranked first at 14.5%. This is attributed to the nature of golf, which typically requires four players, reflecting strong demand for finding playing partners. Soccer and futsal (11.2%), running (8.0%), badminton (5.8%), and dance (4.2%) were also popular group activities for users seeking companions.
Danggeun explained that connections are being made across a wide range of interests, from sports like golf, Han River running, and badminton, to hobby-based groups such as food tours and board games. Among Millennials & Gen Z, unique gatherings like “Cops and Robbers” games or “French Fries Meetups” are also gaining popularity.
Reflecting the local community nature of the service, age and gender distribution among participants was relatively balanced: 14% in their 20s, 26% in their 30s, 27% in their 40s, 23% in their 50s, and 8% aged 60 and above. This demonstrates that people across all generations are connecting on Danggeun based solely on shared neighborhoods and interests.
Danggeunmoim was launched in July 2023 and over the past three years has helped Danggeun establish itself as a regional community service rather than just a secondhand marketplace. The increased activity in Danggeunmoim led to a 103% year-on-year increase in total time users spent on the community services. Additionally, the number of user interactions—including posts, comments, and likes—reached 83.17 million, up 98% compared to the same period last year.
