Korea Industrial Complex Corporation Establishes "M.AX Standards and Certification Center" to Expand Manufacturing AI in Industrial Complexes
Establishing a Standards and Certification System for Data, Infrastructure, and Solutions
Recruitment of External Experts
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on July 8 that it will establish the "M.AX Standards and Certification Center," which will promote standardization and certification work for manufacturing data, infrastructure, and solutions to accelerate the transition to manufacturing artificial intelligence (AI) in industrial complexes (M.AX).
This new center is being established to address the issue where the use of manufacturing data and AI is limited due to different equipment and solutions at each company, and to expand the adoption of manufacturing AI across industrial complexes.
The newly established "M.AX Standards and Certification Center" will serve as a dedicated organization that builds a standardization and certification system for both hardware—such as materials, parts, and equipment used in industrial complex manufacturing sites—and software, including AI solutions. The center will sequentially develop key criteria necessary for the spread of manufacturing AI, including the design of manufacturing data standards, establishment of AI infrastructure connection guidelines, and verification of solution suitability.
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to standardize manufacturing data, infrastructure, and solutions based on common criteria and verify their suitability through the center, thereby enhancing the reliability and scalability of the industrial complex manufacturing AI ecosystem. In addition, to secure the center's expertise and credibility, the corporation will publicly recruit an external expert as the center director and will gradually strengthen its workforce by bringing in professionals with experience in standard design and certification system operation.
The corporation will also cooperate with the National Institute of Technology and Standards and leverage the infrastructure and expertise of domestic testing and certification agencies, such as the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), and the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), to establish a credible standards and certification system.

The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to prioritize the application of the established standards and certification system to key projects, such as the AX demonstration complex and carbon-neutral industrial complexes, and expand it to industrial complexes nationwide based on operational results. Lee Sang-hoon, President of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, stated, "Manufacturing AI can spread beyond individual companies to industrial complexes as a whole when data, infrastructure, and solutions—the core components—are standardized and interconnected. By establishing a reliable standards and certification foundation centered around the M.AX Standards and Certification Center, which actively utilizes external expertise, we will accelerate manufacturing innovation in industrial complexes."
