The FDC, also known as an offshore data center, is a next-generation data center that operates servers on floating structures at sea. As an alternative to traditional land-based data centers, it is gaining attention for its ability to address challenges such as securing sites and the high costs of server cooling.
Under this agreement, the two companies will expand cooperation in key areas, aiming to build integrated data center infrastructure based on offshore platforms. Their collaboration will focus on developing core data center infrastructure technologies and optimizing engineering solutions for the maritime environment. Schneider Electric, a global leader in power, cooling, and energy management for data centers, leverages its experience in constructing hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure to provide next-generation digital infrastructure solutions.
Jiwung Kwon, CEO of Schneider Electric Korea, stated, "By combining Schneider Electric's global data center technology capabilities with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering's expertise in shipbuilding and marine engineering, we will set a new standard for next-generation floating data centers."
