Daewoo E&C Completes Expressway in Iraq... First Phase of Port Logistics Infrastructure
Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced on July 8 that it has completed the construction of a 62 km-long expressway connecting the Al-Faw New Port and Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. The company received the final completion certificate from the Iraq Port Authority, the project owner.
This was a design and build turnkey project worth a total of USD 440 million, which Daewoo Engineering & Construction carried out independently. Construction began in August 2021 and continued for 45 months, followed by a one-year defect liability period, before being officially completed last year in May. This section is the first phase of a national strategic project promoted by the local government in Iraq’s largest port city and serves as a core logistics corridor. The expressway is expected to become a key piece of infrastructure for the international logistics network extending through Türkiye to Europe. Daewoo Engineering & Construction noted that, in addition to previous projects such as the breakwater and tunnel, successfully completing this major connecting road further strengthened its partnership in the Al-Faw New Port development process.

By securing essential materials in advance, expanding storage yards, and deploying skilled foreign workers and equipment, Daewoo Engineering & Construction minimized interruptions to the construction schedule. Most of the core work was managed in-house, allowing the company to complete the project as originally planned.
