Taihan Cable Wins 45 Billion Won Turnkey Project for AI Data Center Power Grid in Australia
Building 330kV Power Infrastructure
Turnkey Execution from Design to Construction
Taihan Cable is accelerating its market expansion after winning a contract to build the power infrastructure for an artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Australia.
On July 8, Taihan Cable announced that it has secured a turnkey project to construct the power grid for an AI Data Center (AIDC), commissioned by Transgrid, Australia's largest transmission network operator. The contract is valued at approximately 45 billion won.
This project aims to stably supply large-scale electricity to the AIDC currently under construction in Australia. Taihan Cable will be responsible for the entire turnkey process, from design to construction, of a 330kV cable system.
An AIDC is a large-scale facility that operates continuously 24 hours a day, making it essential to establish a power grid that can reliably support its high electricity consumption. Because the stability and reliability of power supply directly impact service operations, not only is the quality and reliability of ultra-high voltage cables critical, but advanced capabilities in system design, engineering, construction, and on-site management are also required throughout the project. Taihan Cable was selected as the qualified contractor after competing with leading global companies, drawing on its accumulated technological expertise and global project experience in the ultra-high voltage cable sector.
Taihan Cable has built a strong track record and competitiveness through numerous projects in Oceania, including Australia and New Zealand. Notably, the company successfully completed a 500kV project—the highest voltage level among underground cables commercialized in Australia—and a landmark project involving the construction of a 330kV cable system to expand Sydney's power grid. In addition, it has carried out various projects in the region, such as the 275kV and 132kV projects in Australia and the 220kV project in New Zealand.
This latest contract is significant as it recognizes Taihan Cable's technological prowess and project execution capabilities in the rapidly growing AIDC power infrastructure market. As AI and cloud adoption drive increased demand for large-scale data processing and storage, investments in AIDC facilities are expanding worldwide. Accordingly, investments in infrastructure for stable power supply are expected to rise, and Taihan Cable anticipates expanding opportunities for related business.
