10th Seongju County Council Convenes First Extraordinary Session
Formation of Special Ethics Committee and Key Administrative Briefings
"Policy Alternatives Residents Can Truly Experience" Urged
The 10th Seongju County Council has convened its first extraordinary session, officially commencing full-scale legislative activities, including a comprehensive review of the 9th popularly elected county administration.
The Seongju County Council in North Gyeongsang Province opened the 299th Extraordinary Session on July 7, and will operate its first session over a four-day schedule until July 10. This extraordinary session is the first official meeting held after the formation of the steering committee for the 10th council’s first half, making it especially meaningful as it sets the stage for determining the future direction of council operations.

During this session, the council will establish a Special Ethics Committee to create a responsible governance framework. It will also receive key administrative work reports from the 9th popularly elected administration, focusing on a thorough review of core issues and major policy directions.
In his opening remarks, Council Chair Kim Jongsik stated, "It is significant that the 10th Seongju County Council has completed the formation of its steering committee harmoniously and taken its first step with a spirit of coexistence and cooperation. This extraordinary session will serve as an important starting point for fulfilling promises to the residents and establishing the council’s role and direction."
He particularly emphasized to the council members that work reports must not stop at a mere status check. He urged, "Please closely examine whether there are any factors leading to budget waste, and propose effective policy alternatives that residents can truly experience."
He also called on the executive branch to prepare concrete action plans to address local issues such as population decline and regional economic stagnation, and to actively incorporate the council’s policy proposals into county administration.
Starting with this session, Seongju County Council plans to focus its legislative capacity on reviewing supplementary budget bills, operating regular sessions, and conducting on-site inspections of major projects, thereby providing oversight and policy alternatives for the early phase of the 9th administration.
This first extraordinary session is expected to serve as a starting point for evaluating whether the newly inaugurated 9th administration and 10th county council can balance cooperation and oversight while jointly envisioning Seongju’s future.
