Vice Minister Daehyun Kim Inspects Professional Baseball Stadium Safety Management Ahead of Heatwave
On the afternoon of July 7, Daehyun Kim, the Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will visit Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon to inspect baseball stadium safety management and spectator convenience facilities in preparation for the summer heatwave.
Vice Minister Kim, along with Jongtae Park, CEO of Hanwha Eagles; Jangsoon Park, Chairman of the Sports Safety Foundation; Chulho Park, CEO of Dong-A Otsuka; and Geunchan Park, Secretary General of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), will tour both the interior and the outdoor plaza of the stadium. They will conduct focused inspections on the following: the readiness of spectator facilities for the heatwave; the operation status of booths for the heat illness prevention campaign; the current state of convenience facilities for spectators with disabilities; preparations for implementing the revised National Sports Promotion Act to eradicate ticket scalping; and the management and improvement of stadium waste disposal.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in cooperation with the Sports Safety Foundation and Dong-A Otsuka, is conducting a nationwide campaign to prevent heat-related illnesses and secure the safety of participants in sports events during the summer heatwave. Public service advertisements emphasizing the importance of preventing heat-related illnesses during sports activities are currently being broadcast on 47 outdoor digital billboards nationwide and will soon be expanded to baseball stadium screens as well.
In addition, a total of 20 heat illness prevention training sessions (for approximately 1,500 participants) will be conducted for sports event organizers, and 7,000 copies of a prevention checklist will be distributed. Furthermore, on-site safety training booths will be operated three times for around 30,000 participants at large-scale sports events, providing safety experiences and counseling, including proper hydration methods. The ministry also plans to strengthen its prevention outreach by conducting an online campaign via social network services (SNS) and distributing five card news posts.
