Korea Shipping of SM Group Appoints Former Konkuk University President Minsang Ki as New CEO
Korea Shipping, the shipping affiliate of SM Group, announced on July 7 that Minsang Ki, former president of Konkuk University, has been appointed as its new CEO.
Prior to this, Korea Shipping held an extraordinary general shareholders' meeting and a board meeting the previous day at the Korea Listed Companies Association building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where the appointment of former President Ki as the new CEO was approved.
CEO Minsang Ki was born in 1955 in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. After earning his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in food engineering from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, he became a professor at Konkuk University in 1995. He went on to serve as dean of the graduate school and vice president for academic affairs at the same university, before becoming its 20th president from September 2016 to August 2020.
During his tenure as president, he was recognized for establishing a talent development system for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era by driving innovation in undergraduate education and securing projects such as the university's selection as a leading institution for industry-academia collaboration and industry-linked initiatives.
Korea Shipping expects that CEO Ki's leadership, as an expert in organizational management and talent development, will significantly contribute to enhancing the company's corporate value as a national shipping line, achieving sustainable growth, and establishing robust ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

In his inauguration address, CEO Ki stated, "We will pursue relentless innovation for growth and the discovery of future growth engines, prioritize ESG management as our foremost task for sustainability, and establish flawless ethical management to further strengthen our fundamentals, while actively targeting high value-added markets. I will lead Korea Shipping to become a global shipping company that delivers the highest value and vision to our customers and shareholders."
