After Gaining Popularity with Her Brown Hair and Charming British Accent... Now Starring in Her First Feature Film
AI Actor Tilly Nord
Criticized as "Not an Actor"
Starring in the Film "Misaligned"
The "artificial intelligence (AI) actor" that sparked major controversy in Hollywood last year will star as the lead in a feature film.
According to the U.S. entertainment outlet Deadline on the 6th (local time), AI actor Tilly Nord will appear as the lead in the comedy film "Misaligned."
"Misaligned" centers on the story of Tilly, an AI with neither a physical body nor a childhood, who, under the influence of a malicious bot, develops desires and impulses and goes through various experiences as a result. The film is being produced by Particle6, a UK-based production company founded by Dutch actor and producer Elin van der Velden.
Van der Velden, who created Nord last year, expressed her anticipation for the project, stating that it will be "undoubtedly fun, confusing, and self-aware."
Nord is an AI actor with brown hair and a British accent. She launched her Instagram account in May last year, sharing her virtual daily life and interacting with the public. In October of the same year, she made her debut at a side event of the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, creating a significant stir in the film industry.
Van der Velden explained, "The goal in developing Nord was to demonstrate how far AI technology could be utilized in the creative industry." She added, "Through this first feature film, we not only aim to showcase the latest AI technology and its applications, but also help existing filmmakers involved in the project to develop the skills needed in the AI era and adapt to change." She further stated, "As AI is set to play an increasingly important role in the film industry, we will continue to support industry professionals in acquiring new technologies so they can keep growing."
Previously, when it was announced in October last year that Nord would begin her activities, the Hollywood actors and broadcasters union (SAG-AFTRA) released a statement criticizing, "Nord is not an actor," and describing her as "a character produced by a computer program that has absorbed the work of countless professional performers." The union further pointed out that such technology "steals actors' performances, threatens the livelihoods of performers by putting them out of work, and undermines human artistry."

At the time, Van der Velden responded, "AI is not about replacing humans, but is instead a new tool, like animation, puppetry, or computer-generated imagery." She emphasized, "Rather than comparing AI characters to real actors, I believe they can be recognized as a genre of their own."
