The Seongju County Council in North Gyeongsang Province held its opening ceremony in the main chamber on July 2, officially declaring the launch of its 10th council.
The event was attended by Jeon Hwasik, the Seongju County Governor, as well as local institution and organization heads, and the families of council members, all of whom gathered to celebrate the new council's inauguration.
Prior to the opening ceremony, the leadership election was held, where Assemblyman Kim Jongsik was elected as the chairperson for the first half of the 10th Seongju County Council, and Assemblyman Jang Ikbong was elected as vice chairperson.

The council members pledged to conduct diligent and responsible legislative work to protect the rights and interests of the residents and to promote regional development.
In his inaugural address, Chairperson Kim Jongsik expressed, "I am deeply grateful to the residents and my fellow council members," adding, "I will serve as a chairperson who upholds the dignity of the council and brings about tangible improvements to residents' lives, embracing the weighty responsibility over personal glory."
He further outlined four main values that will guide the council's operations: legislation focused on residents' livelihoods with on-site solutions; open, participatory governance where residents play a central role; balanced cooperation achieved through productive checks and collaboration; and a council trusted for its integrity and accountability.
Notably, the 10th Seongju County Council has decided to retain the slogan used by the 9th council, "A Communicative Legislature, a Council of Action."
This decision reflects the council's intention to reduce budget spending by avoiding costs associated with creating a new slogan and replacing promotional materials and facilities. It also underscores the council's commitment to be evaluated based on policy and action, rather than superficial changes.
The Seongju County Council plans to begin its official legislative activities by convening its 299th extraordinary session on July 7, starting with departmental administrative briefings, followed by oversight of the executive branch and policy reviews.

Over the next four years, the 10th Seongju County Council will be evaluated on how well it delivers on the two key challenges it has set for itself: "budget reduction" and "legislation focused on residents' livelihoods," as it chooses to focus on fulfilling existing promises rather than adopting a new slogan.
