Spotted Attending Politically Opposite Street Rally Just Two Months Later
Actress Jeon Wonju (86), who appeared at Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae's campaign rally this past May ahead of the June 3 local elections, has now been spotted attending a rally organized by a conservative group.
According to YouTube and other sources on July 6, Jeon Wonju attended the "Umbrella Revolution Rally" hosted by the conservative civic group "Korea-US Alliance Group" near Gwanghwamun, Seoul, on July 4. The group is reportedly led by Jeon Hangil.
The rally focused on emphasizing the importance of the Korea-US alliance in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. A livestream video on the YouTube channel "Jeon Hangil News" showed Jeon Wonju listening to speeches alongside other participants.
Jeon Wonju attentively listened to remarks by Morse Tan, former U.S. ambassador for global criminal justice at the State Department during the first Trump administration and former professor at Liberty University School of Law. She sat with her hands together and nodded during the speech.
Former Professor Tan stressed the importance of the Korea-US alliance in his speech. He pointed out, "Since the Korean War, U.S. and South Korean forces have always fought on the same side," referencing the relationship between the two nations' militaries during the Vietnam War. He then stated, "For the first time in history, President Lee Jaemyung did not help the United States when it fought against Iran."
Actor Choi Junyong, who served as the event's host, specifically introduced Jeon Wonju's attendance and prompted attendees to greet her.
Previously, Jeon Wonju also appeared at a Democratic Party campaign event. During a campaign rally supporting the Democratic Party at Gongju Mountain Fortress Market in South Chungcheong Province, a party official informed leader Jeong Cheong-rae, "Ms. Jeon Wonju came to see you." Jeong then approached the vehicle Jeon was in. Upon seeing Jeong, Jeon clapped and gave a thumbs-up. The two held hands and walked together briefly.
