Gumi Strengthens Preventive Policing Ahead of Vacation... Joint Civil-Government Efforts for Community Safety
Drone Patrols and Community-Based Campaigns Launched
Full-Scale Efforts to Create a Safe Environment for Youth
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on July 6 that it conducted a joint civil-government patrol and crime prevention campaign across the Gumi area to create a safe environment for youth to grow and to enhance citizens' sense of security ahead of the summer vacation.
This initiative took place on July 3 at San-dong Mulbit Park and the academy district in Gumi City.
It was organized to prevent juvenile delinquency and to create a safe living environment that allows residents to feel at ease, coinciding with the end of the first semester final exams for middle and high schools and the upcoming summer vacation.
More than 40 people participated in the joint patrol, including the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency’s Regional Crime Prevention Patrol Unit, the Crime Prevention Response Division of Gumi Police Station, the Women and Youth Division, the Criminal Division, the Traffic Division, the San-dong Police Substation, and the Gumi San-dong Civil Volunteer Crime Prevention Corps, carrying out preventive security operations.
The participants conducted foot patrols focusing on Mulbit Park, the academy district, and commercial areas, carrying out both youth protection activities and crime prevention publicity. They also listened to residents’ opinions on site and checked for potential safety hazards in daily life.
During the event, a patrol demonstration using drones was also held. The police introduced a three-dimensional patrol system utilizing advanced equipment, showcasing security services that enhance the efficiency of preventive patrols in parks and vulnerable areas.
Going forward, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency plans to further expand joint civil-government patrols and crime prevention campaigns, focusing on parks, school routes, academy districts, and other spaces closely connected to daily life, while reflecting residents’ feedback.

A police official stated, "The most important role of the police is not to respond after incidents occur, but to prevent crimes and accidents," adding, "We will further strengthen preventive security activities in cooperation with the local community."
This joint patrol is significant in that it went beyond simple visible patrols, as police, residents, and the volunteer crime prevention corps worked together to build a local safety network.
