View original imageAccording to social networking services (SNS) and other sources on July 6, a restaurant owner identified as “A” in Buena Park, California, released a video on June 27 showing himself posting a notice on the restaurant's entrance door.
The notice featured a drawing of a soccer ball and the phrase "Hong Myung Bo is banned from entering" written in Korean. Beneath it, there was also an English message conveying the meaning "Korean National Football Team Manager Hong Myung Bo is prohibited from entering."
Buena Park is a city in Orange County southeast of LA, where a Korean business district has formed around Beach Boulevard. The video spread rapidly through online communities and SNS, with netizens responding, "Even people in the U.S. are joining in," and "The 'No Entry' notice has now appeared abroad."
Previously, similar notices targeting former coach Hong had appeared in Korea. A bar in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, put up a notice on its entrance reading "Hong Myung Bo is banned from entering," and a barbecue restaurant in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, also posted on SNS that former coach Hong was prohibited from entering.
This movement spread as the national team showed a disappointing performance at the 2026 North and Central America World Cup. After South Korea failed to advance past the group stage, criticism of former coach Hong's tactics and player selection intensified.
After it was confirmed that South Korea would not make it to the round of 32, former coach Hong announced his intention to step down on June 29. At the time, he took responsibility for the World Cup result and expressed his intention to resign.
After returning to Korea with the national team on June 30, former coach Hong flew to LA, USA, where his family is reportedly staying, on July 2. When asked by reporters at the airport whether he planned to make a statement about his future, he replied, "I have things to say, but there will be a time when I can say them properly," refraining from further comment.
