KPX Chemical Enters Soft Polyurethane Recycling Business
KPX Chemical is entering the soft polyurethane recycling business.
On July 6, KPX Chemical announced that it will establish a soft polyurethane recycling plant in cooperation with H&S. The plant will be located at the new site of its affiliate, Jinyang Polyurethane, in the Yongsan Industrial Complex in Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, with the goal of commencing commercial operations in June next year.
The core of this project lies in building a circular economy model that converts soft foam scrap, previously treated as waste, into high-value recycled polyol. The recycled polyol produced can replace up to 30% of new polyol in the manufacturing of soft foam, and in certain applications, an even higher substitution rate is possible. The quality is also expected to maintain equivalent mechanical properties and seating comfort compared to existing products.
Notably, KPX Chemical will be the first in Asia to introduce H&S's recycling process technology, which has already been commercialized and technically validated in European and Latin American markets. By securing exclusive usage rights in Korea, the company is expected to build a differentiated competitive edge in the domestic recycled polyol market going forward.
This initiative is also significant for completing a resource circulation system through vertical integration within the group. Jinyang Polyurethane will supply post-industrial recycled (PIR) scrap generated during the production process as raw material, and KPX Chemical will process it into recycled polyol. This structure not only reduces waste disposal costs but also decreases the use of fossil resources, thereby contributing to both ESG management and cost competitiveness.
