Kakao announced on the 5th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for "the dissemination of hazardous weather information and support for vulnerable groups" with the Korea Meteorological Administration at the KMA’s Seoul office on July 3. The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Miseon, Administrator of the Korea Meteorological Administration, and Kwon Daeyeol, Head of Sustainability Management at Kakao.
Under this agreement, Kakao plans to operate a public-interest cooperation system covering both information dissemination and social support, utilizing its high-engagement platforms such as KakaoTalk Channel, Biz Board, and Kakao Together Value.
First, in line with the KMA’s newly revised heatwave advisory system—the first update in 18 years—Kakao will provide guidance on the new advisory standards and recommended actions for each situation through its KakaoTalk Channel and Kakao Biz Board.
In addition, practical support will be provided for vulnerable groups. Through 'Kakao Together Value,' Kakao’s social contribution platform, a fundraising campaign will be conducted in partnership with the Babsang Community Welfare Foundation to help those particularly susceptible to heatwaves. Going forward, Kakao plans to continue exploring ways to closely integrate a wide range of meteorological information provided by the KMA—including not only heatwaves, but also cold waves, earthquakes, and more—into its platforms.
