Han Donghun Criticizes Party Leadership: "Disciplinary Actions to Survive Crisis... It Looks Bizarre"
"The Rebuilding of the Conservative Party Has Begun... We Must Not Miss the Golden Time"
As the Central Ethics Committee of the People Power Party is scheduled to hold a plenary meeting to discuss disciplinary action against party lawmakers, Donghun Han, Independent Member of the National Assembly, described the situation as "grotesque."
On July 3, appearing on the Busan Ilbo YouTube channel, Assemblyman Han was asked about the upcoming meeting of the People Power Party's Ethics Committee. He replied, "I will refrain from commenting," but added, "Such actions and disciplinary measures look grotesque from the outside."
Assemblyman Han criticized, "In a situation where those in the pro-leadership faction should take responsibility and step down, they are trying to cover the public's eyes with absurd disciplinary measures to avoid a crisis." He continued, "They are repeatedly trying to create a confrontation with me to give themselves something to lean on. I will not play along with that, and I will refrain from further comment."
Assemblyman Han also said, "If the pro-leadership faction steps down and the conservative party takes its first step toward rebuilding, the approval rating will rise by at least 10 percentage points compared to now." He added, "The media and the public have already passed judgment on the pro-leadership faction. From the perspective of Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik, can he really just let this situation go unresolved?"
Assemblyman Han stated, "The process of rebuilding the conservative camp has already begun. It cannot be stopped. Many people are hoping for this, and the number of people joining this path will continue to grow." However, he cautioned, "There is a golden time for rebuilding. Politicians must feel a sense of responsibility. If we miss that golden time, the public will turn away from us."
Assemblyman Han explained that there are "various ways" for him to rejoin the People Power Party under the current leadership. Regarding the results of the recent local elections, he evaluated, "This was an election that demonstrated the formula that, if we move forward with our support base and persuade moderates, we can achieve a landslide victory in the 2028 general elections and regain power in the 2030 presidential election."
