Pushing for Reforms to Unlimited Debate and Fast-Track Legislative Procedures
Byungdo Han, Acting Leader and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party, announced on July 3, 2026, "We will complete the legislative process for the main policy tasks of the Lee Jaemyung administration by the end of this year."
Acting Leader Han made this statement at the Democratic Party's National Assembly members' workshop held in Yongsan, Seoul, in preparation for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly. He said, "We will fully carry out our parliamentary responsibilities for the promises made to the people, including region-led growth, balanced national development, the three major mega projects, the recovery of the people's livelihood economy, support for small business owners, and the fostering of future AI industries." He emphasized, "The most important duty of the second half of the National Assembly is to firmly support the core policy tasks of the Lee Jaemyung administration, which have been chosen by the people."

He stated, "Today's workshop will serve as an opportunity for the party, government, and presidential office to come together as one, reaffirm the responsibilities of the ruling party, and pledge to complete livelihood-related legislation without delays." Referring to the recent meeting between President Lee Jaemyung and former President Moon Jae-in, Acting Leader Han said, "What the people witnessed was not merely a meeting between two presidents. It was the succession of democratic government, a promise of unity and solidarity, and a vision of shared responsibility for the Republic of Korea." He emphasized, "Now, it is the second half of the National Assembly that must deliver results based on that vision."
He went on, "By becoming stronger through unity and building trust through accomplishments, I will work with all of you to create a second half of the National Assembly that moves forward solely for the people and the public good."
Addressing the situation where only 11 standing committee chairs have been elected under the Democratic Party's leadership, Acting Leader Han said, "It is regrettable." He added, "If the People Power Party truly respects the will of the people and feels even a minimum sense of responsibility as lawmakers, I once again urge them here and now to cooperate in electing the remaining seven standing committee chairs."

Speaking about standing committees chaired by the opposition, he remarked, "I understand there are many concerns within our ministries where the opposition holds the chair positions. I want to assure you that we will amend the laws so that the filibuster and fast-track systems function properly and prevent any misuse, thereby firmly supporting key policy tasks. Please do not worry."
