In addition to providing tourist information and processing complaints, there has been a steady stream of foreign visitors leaving messages of thanks for the assistance they received during their trips.
On June 23, an American tourist sent an email to the 1330 Tourist Complaint Center with the subject "My Deepest Thanks to the Brave Officer at Naksan Police Substation." That afternoon, at around 3 p.m., the tourist was swept far out to sea by waves while swimming with his daughters at Naksan Beach.
A citizen who witnessed the incident jumped into the sea to help, but ended up in danger as well. After receiving a report, police officers from the Naksan substation of the Sokcho Marine Police Station arrived, equipped with rescue tubes and other gear, and brought both the tourist and the citizen safely back to the shore.
In his email, the rescued tourist asked that his "highest praise and heartfelt thanks" be conveyed to the police officers who saved him and responded to the scene, as well as the paramedics. He also expressed his apologies for endangering others due to his own careless actions.
Other reports received by the 1330 Tourist Complaint Center included a case of assisting a Chinese tourist in a medical emergency due to severe abdominal pain, as well as messages of gratitude from tourists who had their lost mobile phones returned after forgetting them in taxis.
