Gallup Poll Results
President Lee's Approval Rating Rises by 3 Percentage Points from Last Week
Outlook for Housing Prices Shifts from Downward to Upward Trend
A recent public opinion poll showed that President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating for his job performance, which had been declining after the local elections, has rebounded to the mid-50% range.
According to a regular poll released by Gallup Korea on July 3, which was conducted from June 30 to July 2 via telephone interviews with 1,005 people aged 18 and older nationwide (with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 10.2%), 54% of respondents said that President Lee is "doing a good job." This marks a 3 percentage point increase from last week’s survey, which stood at 51%. Evaluations of President Lee’s job performance had shown a downward trend after reaching 64% in the third week of May before the local elections, falling to 57% in the second week of June and then to 51% in the fourth week of June.
The negative evaluation, or the percentage of those saying he is "doing a poor job," stood at 36%, down 5 percentage points from the previous survey.
Gallup explained, "Among moderates, 58% viewed President Lee's job performance positively, while 33% viewed it negatively." By age group, the positive evaluation was low at 41% among people in their 20s and 70s, but stood at 48% for those in their 30s, 65% for those in their 40s, 69% for those in their 50s, and 57% for those in their 60s, showing notable differences by generation.

The People Power Party's support dropped by 1 percentage point to 26%. The Rebuilding Korea Party and the Reform Party each recorded 2%, while the Progressive Party and the Basic Income Party each recorded 1%.
This survey also included questions about real estate. When asked about the outlook for housing prices over the next year, 55% responded that prices would rise, while 14% expected them to fall. In contrast, back in March of this year, a larger share believed prices would decline (46%) rather than increase (29%), indicating a shift in perceptions of the real estate market.
Rent prices—including monthly and lump-sum deposits—were also expected to rise. Some 65% of respondents predicted an increase in rent, while 8% expected a decrease, and 19% anticipated no change.
Regarding real estate policy, only 26% responded that the government is "doing well," while 46% said it is "doing poorly."
When it comes to the Jeonse (lump-sum deposit lease) system, 54% said "it has more advantages and should continue in the future," compared to 28% who said "it has more disadvantages and should be abolished in the future." Gallup explained, "Most respondent groups, including progressives, leaned toward seeing the Jeonse system as necessary."
