Siheung City Recruiting Companies to Hire Skilled International Student Workers
Job Placement Program in Partnership with Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology
Comprehensive Support from Tailored Talent Matching to Post-Employment Follow-up
Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lim Byeongtaek) has launched an employment linkage program connecting international students with local manufacturing companies, aiming to address the chronic workforce shortages in root industries.
On July 3, the city announced that it is implementing the "Employment Linkage Program for International Students to Address Vacancies in Root Industries" in partnership with the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation at Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology. The city is now recruiting local companies that wish to hire international students as skilled workers.
Centered around the Shihwa National Industrial Complex, Siheung City is recognized as a leading manufacturing city, with over 3,500 root industry companies specializing in areas such as mold manufacturing, welding, and surface treatment. However, due to the high proportion of small businesses with fewer than five employees and factors such as working conditions, young people tend to avoid employment in these sectors, making it difficult for companies to secure skilled workers.
Through collaboration with Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology, which has been designated by the government as a "Root Industry Foreign Skilled Workforce Training University," Siheung City has established a job support system that connects international students trained in specialized technical fields in Korea with local companies.
The participating international students undergo job training, on-site internships, Korean language job competency education, resume writing, and interview consulting, and are matched with companies according to their needs. The city will provide support throughout the process, including accompanying interviews and post-employment follow-up, to help both companies and workers settle in stably.
The recruitment is open to companies based in Siheung that wish to hire foreign skilled workers. Interested companies can check the announcement titled "Recruitment of Companies Wishing to Hire International Student Skilled Workers" posted on the Siheung City Hall website and submit an application.
