"Can Hair Loss Worries Be Eased?"... Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute's Natural Ingredient Hair Tonic Recognized for Functionality by Ministry of Food and Drug Safety [Reading Science]
World’s First Purified "Maysin" Applied
Hair Density Improvement Confirmed After 24 Weeks of Use
A hair tonic based on natural ingredients that has proven effective in alleviating hair loss symptoms has been recognized for its functionality, based on proprietary technology developed by a domestic research team. This product utilizes "Maysin," a natural flavonoid isolated and purified for the first time in the world by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, and is scheduled to be released in the second half of this year.
On July 2, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute announced that "Maysin Revive and Restore Hair Tonic," a Maysin-based hair tonic developed by BioMaysin, the Institute's 8th research company, recently passed the final functional cosmetic review for alleviating hair loss symptoms by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute's self-developed natural bio-material 'Maysin' based functional cosmetic for alleviating hair loss symptoms, 'Maysera Revive and Restore Hair Tonic,' has successfully passed the final review by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. While it has outstanding antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, its natural concentration is extremely low and it is difficult to synthesize chemically. For these reasons, it is considered a high-value-added natural material.
The research team at the Advanced Radiation Technology Institute of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute succeeded in isolating and purifying Maysin from Centipedegrass for the first time in the world. They subsequently developed a natural bio-technology and extraction process to maximize Maysin content, securing related fundamental patents.
This product is characterized by using Maysin as its key ingredient instead of caffeine, biotin, or dexpanthenol, which are commonly used in functional cosmetics for hair loss. Whereas existing products focus on improving scalp conditions, Maysin Revive and Restore Hair Tonic targets the activation of dermal papilla cells, which play a critical role in hair growth, and improving follicle health.
It is especially noteworthy that the product’s functionality was recognized despite the use of a "non-notified ingredient," which is not listed among the official ingredients designated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. As non-notified ingredients require individual proof of efficacy and safety, the product underwent separate human application trials and safety assessments. After approximately six months of review, Maysin Revive and Restore Hair Tonic received final approval in May.

All participants gave positive feedback regarding the alleviation of hair loss symptoms, crown area fullness, and frontal hairline improvement. No adverse scalp reactions such as itching or stinging were reported during the trial period.
BioMaysin plans to launch Maysin Revive and Restore Hair Tonic in the second half of this year, followed by a series of premium hair care products, including a high-functionality hair tonic and hair loss-alleviating shampoo. The company also aims to develop health functional foods using Maysin as a food ingredient, with plans to enter the global biohealth market.
Choi Seokkyu, CEO of BioMaysin, stated, "Passing the functional cosmetic review by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety demonstrates both the technological capabilities and commercialization potential of domestically developed natural bio-materials. Based on the proprietary technology of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, we will secure competitiveness not only in the domestic premium hair loss care market but also in the global biohealth market."
