11 Standing Committees to Begin Operation First
The Democratic Party of Korea has announced its plan to form a Criminal Procedure Act Amendment Task Force (TF) to discuss prosecutorial reform tasks, including the abolition of supplementary investigation authority.
Byungdo Han, Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party, stated at the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on July 2, 2026, "We will accelerate the completion of prosecutorial reform," adding, "Through intense debate and in-depth deliberation, we will pool all available wisdom to quickly produce a highly refined amendment."

View original imageThe plan is to organize the task force centered on the floor leadership, the policy committee, and the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to prepare the amendment bill.
Acting Leader Han also said, "The task force will promptly seek ways to thoroughly accomplish the historic tasks of completely separating investigative and prosecutorial powers, as well as abolishing supplementary investigation authority. The sole goal of prosecutorial reform is to protect the rights and human rights of the people. We will focus all our capabilities on building a criminal justice system that protects the people and earns their trust."
Additionally, Acting Leader Han announced the plan to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly in July to first operate the 11 standing committees whose chairpersons have been elected. He said, "Since many livelihood policies closely related to people's daily lives will undergo significant changes in the second half of the year, there are numerous pending issues on the ground awaiting parliamentary action. We will focus the party's efforts on fulfilling state tasks and achieving a great leap forward for Korea."

He further stated, "The floor leadership had dinner with the President the day before and discussed future legislative tasks. We will also intensify efforts to establish a special law for mega-clusters and secure infrastructure investment budgets, centering on the three major mega-project support task forces."
