Victim's Side Claims, "Deceived by Her Saying She Was Close With Her Daughter"
Singer Jang Yoonjung's biological mother has been accused of carrying out an investment fraud scheme using her daughter's name. Jang Yoonjung's side made it clear that the singer has "not been in direct contact with her mother for decades," and asserted that this incident is unrelated to Jang Yoonjung. On June 30, JTBC's program "Incident Leader" aired an episode titled "Famous Singer's Mother, All-Around Fraud Scheme," addressing allegations of investment fraud involving Jang Yoonjung's biological mother, identified as Ms. A. According to the broadcast, Ms. A approached a victim, Ms. B, whom she met at a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna), built a relationship, and then mentioned Jang Yoonjung's name while soliciting investment funds.

Subsequently, Ms. A allegedly told Ms. B that investing in TV Chosun's "Miss Trot," a show Jang Yoonjung appeared on, would generate profits, and demanded money as investment funds. The amount Ms. B gave to Ms. A is reported to be in the tens of millions of won.
The victim's side claimed that Ms. A concealed the fact that she had been estranged from Jang Yoonjung for a long time, instead saying, "I have reconciled with my daughter and we are on good terms." There were also claims that Ms. A used two mobile phones to stage KakaoTalk messages, making it look as if Jang Yoonjung was sending her messages. Ms. B stated that seeing these messages led her to believe Ms. A's claims.
The broadcast also raised suspicions that Ms. A mentioned not only Jang Yoonjung but also other celebrities such as Park Narae and Noh Hongchul in order to gain the victim's trust. As the promised payments were repeatedly delayed, Ms. B's daughter found the situation suspicious and reported it to the police. During the investigation, it was revealed that another victim had already filed a complaint about a similar scam involving Ms. A.
Jang Yoonjung did not participate in an interview about her mother for "Incident Leader," but she issued a statement out of concern for additional victims. Jang Yoonjung's side reiterated, "There has been absolutely no direct contact with her mother for several decades," and explained, "Although Ms. A attempted to make contact several times, Jang Yoonjung did not respond at all." The victim is also aware that this case is unrelated to Jang Yoonjung, and it is reported that the police investigation is centered on Ms. A.
Previously, the conflict between Jang Yoonjung and her biological mother first became public in 2013. At that time, Jang Yoonjung revealed through a broadcast that during her parents' divorce proceedings, she discovered issues regarding her assets, learned that the income she had earned over ten years had disappeared, and even found herself in significant debt. This disclosure coincided with her upcoming marriage to broadcaster Do Kyungwan, causing a major public stir.
Subsequently, Jang Yoonjung experienced legal disputes with her mother and younger brother over financial matters. Her biological mother claimed ownership of Jang Yoonjung's income and filed a lawsuit but reportedly lost the case. Jang Yoonjung also filed a lawsuit against her brother to recover money she had lent him, and in 2015, the court ruled in her favor, ordering her brother to repay about 320 million won.
The family conflict continued even after the legal battles. Jang Yoonjung has publicly stated that she is estranged from her mother and is reported to have ignored further contact attempts from her. It is known that Jang Yoonjung has suffered emotional distress for a long time due to her family issues, and this latest allegation is being perceived as yet another harm to her.
