Calls for Administrative Support for 800 Trillion Won Semiconductor Investment and Strengthened Disaster Response
On the first day of the launch of Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City, July 1, Mayor Min Hyung-bae identified support for the semiconductor industry, disaster response, and stabilization of the local economy as the city administration's top priorities. Through his inaugural official directive, he made clear the city's policy to focus administrative capabilities on securing future growth engines, ensuring the safety of citizens, and revitalizing the local economy.
After completing the schedule for the inaugural provisional session of the Metropolitan City Council held at the Mu-an Office on this day, Mayor Min issued his first official directive from his office.

I urge that all administrative resources be concentrated on securing future growth engines, ensuring the safety of citizens, and restoring the local economy."
Regarding support for the semiconductor industry, he instructed that all administrative capabilities be mobilized to ensure semiconductor plants are completed ahead of schedule in line with the total 800 trillion won investment by Samsung and SK, and that semiconductor production begins within President Lee Jaemyung's term.
To this end, he called for the Industry Office to take the lead in establishing a swift administrative support system for the development of essential infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, and land. He also requested that all departments and bureaus thoroughly prepare to foster talent and create favorable residential, educational, and cultural environments.
Disaster response was also presented as a core task.
Mayor Min emphasized, "Protecting the lives and safety of citizens is the most fundamental duty of the administration," adding that "Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City must strengthen its disaster response system to become a city safe from droughts, floods, and heatwaves." He further instructed that disaster-prone areas and facilities be preemptively inspected in preparation for the upcoming heatwaves and the rainy season, and that the Citizen Safety Office develop proactive, prevention-focused disaster countermeasures.
Stabilizing the local economy was also highlighted as a major responsibility.

Mayor Min commented, "The citizens I have met on site express the most urgent desire for job creation and economic recovery," and called for the Economic Office to actively promote consumption and invigorate neighborhood businesses, as well as to devise effective measures for stabilizing the local economy.
